Wellington has a diverse and active equine community with a number of new equestrian -related organizations and a number of on-line resources available. Here are some:
Wellington Equestrian Classifieds – on-line resource to list rentals and horse related items or announcements.
Wellington-WEF– – on -line resource -keeps you updated on the horse shows and related topics.
Wellington Horse Forum – on-line resource for horse topics – open board topics
NEW GROUPS
The Equestrian Forum of Wellington – new organization for equestrians – monthly social gatherings and involvement in equestrian interests.
Wellington Equestrian Business Group – new organizations with member benefits engaging businesses.
BMPs for manure Management -The Equestrian Preservation Committee voted to “table” the revised BMPS for manure management until the County of Palm Beach comes out with their new guidelines.
The Village is making an effort to bring more ecological awareness to the equestrian community in the management of their manure. Although, phosphorus does not appear to be a problem in horse manure, the large number of medications, feed additives, hormones, and other feed contaminants are good reason to compost and prevent manure runoff from entering the soil or water.
Wellington has always taken a lead in establishing manure management standards to protect our water quality. The burden lies not on the Village to regulate, but on the farm owner to mange water and soil.
